I can’t think of much better news to kick off World AIDS Week than to hear that CATIE is now collaborating with PositiveLite in a similar fashion to what the OHTN announced that they would be doing earlier this month. You can read CATIE’s inaugural post here.   I'm a big fan of both these organizations. I really think this is a win-win situation. Or perhaps that should be a win-win-win situation, as three parties are involved. For PositiveLite it means additional quality content

In which Bob Leahy looks at an example of questionable research concerning the phenomenon of gay men giving oral sex to straight guys and says “Whaaaat?”

Research on gay men that gives new meaning to the term Oral Abstracts; is it for real?

First the background. This research study was floating around the internet last week. It’s a piece of research which purportedly investigates the impact on heterosexual males who receive daily oral sex from gay men.  In plain terms, it suggests there's a link between said regular blowjobs and lowering the risk of the recipients for developing some nasty things like prostate and testicular cancer. Specifically, straight men who lay back and enjoy are less likely to develop those nasty-so

Quitting smoking has numerous health benefits. Twelve hours after quitting, carbon monoxide levels in your body drop to normal. One year after quitting, your added risk of heart disease is half that of a smoker'

The current data from Canada and US indicates the LGBT population smokes at a higher rate than the general public.  The key facts regarding this disparity include: gay, bisexual and transgender men are 2.0 to 2.5 times more likely to smoke than heterosexual men.  Lesbian, bisexual and transgender women are 1.5 to 2.0 times more likely to smoke than heterosexual women.  Bisexual boys and girls have some of the highest smoking rates when compared with both their heterosexual and h

“Smoking aggravates health issues, making dental problems, gum disease and mouth cancer more common. In addition, people with HIV who smoke get lung cancer, emphysema, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), pneumonia and other lung infections more often than smokers who do not have HIV. Finally, smoking weakens your immune system, undermining the effects of your HIV medications.” (The Body.com). “Men who have sex with men are disproportionately more likely to smoke cigarettes than

Furry Friends Friday: the Peripheral Neuropathy Edition

I hope you’re not getting sick of seeing these guys. These are our three errant hounds in their very best “we are not amused” pose.

Actually, it’s all a front. They are easily amused, if tickling their tummies counts.  We’re fortunate to be living right out in the country where our dogs (left to right Dudley, Dougall and Peggy) can roam quite freely, at least within the confines of an invisible fence. So I don’t need to take them for walks. Which is just as well because walking has been a touchy issue of mine lately. Blame it on the peripheral neuropathy  in my feet.
